Lessons I Learned From Barack Obama

v-aalkhan

Back in January 2020, I got invited by the Economic Club of Canada through Adidas Canada to see President Obama speak. It was the opportunity to meet someone I have looked to for as long as I can remember. I had the opportunity to take several notes from his talk that touched many pieces of information on leadership, collaboration, and self-development that I founded very useful that I hope can provide value for you wherever you are in life.

Values Towards Becoming Your Best Self

Integrity

Doing the right thing and remembering why it is important to do so will help serve you towards your purpose in life. When faced with many challenges, it can be hard to stay on track, and leading with integrity will inspire others to do the same.

Setting Goals With Compassion

Goals have to be audacious enough that they make you want to take action for them, but understanding that circumstances will occur will give you the compassion towards yourself and others doing the same.

Hit The Books

Education is a powerful tool in understanding and creating a better world. Many places around the world are fortunate to have lots of access to resources we want to learn from, and we must not take it for granted. Use these resources to learn about what you don't know and the world around you.

Optimism

There's a certain amount of magic that can arise when you are optimistic, and use that at the forefront of bringing your ideas to life. This sense of belief and hope will create an energy that can reflect on others, which can help create everyone's optimistic visions to life.

Humility

You are not going to know everything, you will make mistakes often, and that is okay. When we understand and embrace that mentality, it creates more opportunities to take chances towards doing something great, and having the courage help yourself and others to push forward.

Lessons On Problem Solving

Build A Good Team In Effectiveness, Diversity, And Honesty

The best teams are ones that offer unique skills to the table while being honest and open so that they can help challenge and empower everyone to achieve more. Understand your thoughts and really break them down as best as possible. Doing so can then allow you to see any areas for help and improvement. By understanding logic and reasoning as much as possible, it avoids facing cognitive biases and can really push ideas forward.

Back Up Your Claims And Make The Best On Circumstances

Always back up your claims and show how you are coming to the conclusions behind your points of view. You always have to approach conflicts understanding that different circumstances lead to different viewpoints. Knowing this will enable you to be open towards understanding others better and establish a middle ground in connection.

President Obama has changed my life more than I realized. These lessons are very important pieces of advice from someone who has had one of the most difficult jobs on the planet. I will forever be grateful from what he had to say at the event, and for the impact he has had on my life.

What were you main takeaways from above? I would love to know!
